What does the mysterious abbreviation DEN mean? 10 DEN, 15 DEN, 25 DEN or even 60 DEN? The abbreviation DEN indicated the fineness of the silk from which the hosiery was made. Although the latter is already made of nylon fiber, the abbreviation caught on and is still used today. In principle, the lower the number, the thinner and more translucent the tights. And the bigger the number, the tighter, thicker and warmer the tights. In the winter, therefore, feel free to choose 100 DEN or more, but in the summer, go for 20 DEN or less.
